Structural Carpentry

Cut Roofs, Loft Conversions & Structural Carpentry in Poole

Specialist structural carpentry across Poole, Bournemouth, and Dorset. Cut roofs, timber frames, loft conversions, and first and second fix — built to the highest standard.

Structural Carpentry Built to Stand the Test of Time

At Ross-Read Carpentry & Building, structural carpentry is at the heart of everything we do. From complex cut roofs and loft conversions to timber frames and full first and second fix packages, we bring over 20 years of hands-on structural experience to every project across Poole, Bournemouth, and Dorset.

A cut roof — built on site by a skilled carpenter rather than delivered as prefabricated trusses — gives you greater flexibility, better use of roof space, and a structure that can be adapted for a loft conversion at any point in the future. It's the preferred choice for extensions, new builds, and any project where quality and longevity matter.

We work directly with homeowners, developers, and architects — providing detailed quotes, clear timelines, and a single point of contact from initial survey through to final handover.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cut roof and do you build them in Poole?

A cut roof is a traditional roof structure where all rafters, ridge boards, purlins, and hips are cut and assembled on site by a skilled carpenter — giving greater flexibility and better roof space than prefabricated trusses. We build cut roofs across Poole, Bournemouth, and Dorset.

How much does a loft conversion cost in Poole?

Loft conversion costs in Poole typically range from £25,000 to £60,000+ depending on the type (Velux, dormer, hip-to-gable, or mansard), the size of the space, and the specification. We provide free, detailed written quotes for all loft conversion projects.

Do you carry out first and second fix carpentry on new builds?

Yes. We provide both first fix (studwork, joists, staircase strings, door linings) and second fix (skirting, architrave, doors, stairs, handrails) carpentry on new builds and major renovations across Dorset.

Are you fully insured for structural work?

Yes. Ross-Read Carpentry & Building carries full public liability and employer's liability insurance for all structural carpentry work. Certificates are available on request before any work begins.
